Liposuction FAQs

Will I have scars from liposuction?
Since liposuction is a surgical procedure, Dr. Huertas will need to make incisions and possibly suture them, which will leave scars; however, Dr. Huertas does his best to minimize their appearance. This starts with making tiny incisions in the natural folds of your body or in less visible areas. Afterward, Dr. Huertas or a member of his team will explain how to care for these incisions.

Will my liposuction results last?
It's important to be prepared to work to maintain your results. Although liposuction reduces the number of fat cells in your body, you can still gain and lose weight. Dr. Huertas suggests that you be at or near your ideal weight prior to liposuction. Afterward, it's best to remain within 5 – 10 pounds of your post-surgical weight. Getting pregnant after liposuction will impact your results; however, we can do another surgery afterward to refresh your body.

How much fat can be removed during liposuction?

Removing too much fat during liposuction can lead to complications, which is why patients should have realistic expectations when it comes to results. The amount of fat that can be safely removed varies and depends on factors such as age, weight, body type, and the areas being treated. Our professionals at the Dallas Cosmetic Center aim for a natural look and will only remove as much as needed to improve visible problem areas.

Is liposuction painful?

Liposuction is generally a well-tolerated procedure with minimal pain or discomfort. Patients typically experience some mild soreness and discomfort that can be managed with over-the-counter medications. The use of local anesthesia during the procedure also helps to minimize any pain. Rest assured that our staff works hard to ensure your comfort before, during, and after treatment.

Does liposuction offer permanent results?

The fat cells that are removed during liposuction will not grow back, but it's important to maintain a healthy lifestyle to prevent weight gain. This means eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly. Weight gain after liposuction can impact your results and may require a touch-up procedure in the future. However, with proper maintenance in Dallas, TX, liposuction can offer long-lasting outcomes.

What Are the Benefits of Liposuction?

Liposuction can help patients eliminate stubborn pockets of fat in various areas of their bodies that have proven to be difficult to remove through the means of a proper diet and exercise routine. These results are fast and appear natural, giving patients confidence in their bodies they may not have had in years.

You may enjoy the following additional benefits from liposuction at Dallas Cosmetic Center:

am I A Candidate for Liposuction?

Liposuction can be a terrific procedure for both women and men who are at an ideal weight but have troublesome areas of fat that don't respond to a healthy lifestyle. Individuals considering liposuction should still have some elasticity to their skin because liposuction does not treat stretched-out and/or sagging skin. It's also important to understand that liposuction is not a weight-loss solution. Women having liposuction should be past childbearing as a pregnancy could compromise the results of this procedure.

During your consultation, Dr. Huertas will discuss realistic expectations, the areas needing treatment, contraindications, and pre-existing conditions to ensure you're a great liposuction candidate.

How does liposuction work?

Liposuction involves the use of a small stainless steel tube called a cannula. Connected at one end to a specialized suction pump, the cannula is inserted through a tiny skin incision. Dr. Huertas removes fat as the suction cannula creates tiny tunnels through the fatty layers. After surgery, these tiny tunnels collapse, resulting in an improved body contour. The liposuction technology used by Dr. Huertas does not generate heat and has a safety feature that shuts off the system if it encounters non-fat tissue. The infrasonic energy used to break up fat ensures minimal damage to the surrounding area, leaving healthy tissue in place for better skin retraction.

The vibration and movement of the cannula act as a pain blocker in the same way that scratching relieves an itch. The movement of the cannula enables it to glide through fatty tissue while delivering local anesthesia and removing fat with little to no pain or discomfort. The cannula is also able to maneuver through fibrous or tougher areas for better body sculpting, less surgery time, less bruising, and less recovery time.

how long is recovery after liposuction?

You may need to recover at home from liposuction for several weeks based on the number of areas treated and the size of each treatment area. It's normal to see some bruising and swelling for about 1 – 2 weeks. We can remove the sutures around 7 – 10 days after your procedure. The most important thing to do after having any surgery is to give your body time to heal and recover. When you decide to return to work after surgery, you should remember to minimize stress and strenuous activity. To increase your strength, stick to walking and light workouts as advised by Dr. Huertas. Keep in mind that you may notice some changes after six weeks, but it usually takes 6 – 10 months for your new body shape and contour to fully develop.
